EZ-Backup

EZ-Backup was a fee-based, automated remote backup/archive/storage service available to Cornell faculty and staff. That service is being transitioned to Cohesity by December 2024.

At its peak, the EZ-Backup service backed up approximately 400 computers and servers for departments across campus. This platform used IBM Storage Protect (formerly Spectrum Protect), which ran on Windows, Mac, UNIX, and other operating systems. Storage was handled by a hybrid cloud storage solution. Access to stored files was password-protected, using a Kerberos-like two-way authentication process.

In 2023, the industry and best practice changes in backup, storage, and security services prompted CIT to pilot a new solution for several customers. The remaining servers will transition to Cohesity's Server Backup by November 2024.
